Beautiful Book of Dreams
May 16th 2011
I stumbled upon a real thing of beauty in my Google Reader today. It is a book created by Maria Fischer, a recently-graduated graphic designer from Augsburg, Germany.
The book is called “Traumgedanken” which translates to “Thoughts on dreams” and contains various texts which provide an insight into different dream theories.

Maria describes the book as:
Designed as a model of a dream about dreaming. Analogue to a dream, where pieces of reality are assembled to build a story, it brings different text excerpts together. They are connected by threads which tie in with certain key words. The threads visualise the confusion and fragileness of dreams.
What elevates the book, aesthetically speaking is that there are numerous illustrations made out of thread. Their shape and colour corresponding to key words on the opposite page. Maria explains "This way an abstract image of the dream about dreaming is generated".
To me this is a beautiful, beautiful thing. I think I have an inflated respect for printed items like these as most of my career has been focused on digital creative lacking the tactile conclusion to an important work. It really just makes me want to hold it, smell that unique 'new book' small and feel the texture and quality of the threaded pages.
Bravo Maria.
