Is a picture worth a 1000 words?

March 6th 2011

Jon Hallowell

Jon is Group Creative Director at Marketecture. One of the most awarded Creatives in b2b. Over the last five years, Jon has won around 50 National and International creative awards. Including two CIPR Grand Prix, four Roses and quite a few UK B2B Marketing Awards. Which is nice!

I have to caveat this post from the outset, this list is to some degree subjective and as with most lists open to both question and change. As a starter for 10 I have compiled the 10 images I think have had the most dramatic affect on the art of reportage. See what you think and feel free to contribute other suggestions. I'm not sure if it is coincidence or not, but those that move me the most are focussed on the individual. So in no particular order I give you.

1. The Afghan Girl, 1984 by Steve McCurry

2. The Falling Man, 2001 by Richard Drew

3. Tank Man, 1989 by Jeff Widener

4. Self Immolation, 1963 by Malcolm Browne

5. Moon Landing, 1969 by Neil Armstrong

6. Twin Towers, 2001 by AP Wide World
